About Dr Ray
Dr Ray attained his degrees in medicine and surgery at the University of Queensland before spending two years in rural Queensland and another in Britain and Africa. Dr Ray undertook anaesthetic specialist training in Queensland before completing pain medicine specialist training in 2004 at St Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin, and the Professor Tess Cramond Multidisciplinary Pain Centre at the Royal Brisbane Hospital in 2005. In Ireland, Dr Ray trained with one of Europe’s most prolific neuromodulation implanters.
Dr Ray returned to Brisbane to a joint consultant appointment in pain medicine and anaesthesia at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. He continued to serve the Royal Brisbane Hospital as a Senior Visiting Pain Specialist where he trained pain medicine fellows, particularly in interventional techniques until 2024.
Dr Ray began private practice with Axxon Health in 2007, initially at Greenslopes Private Hospital, where he still operates. In 2011, with specialist colleagues, Dr Ray established the St Andrew’s Multidisciplinary Pain Service, incorporating his interventional pain medicine practice with a multidisciplinary pain program at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital.
Dr Ray has held a number of positions in the Faculty of Pain Medicine, ANZCA including Scientific Convener of the Annual Scientific Meeting in Cairns in 2009. He has been a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland since 2008. Dr Ray attends and presents on pain medicine regularly at local and international meetings.
